Kewpie Celebrate 3rd Birthday

Kewpie Celebrate 3rd Birthday Review

Kewpie Celebrate 3rd Birthday Feature

  • Few dolls have made an impact on the American Life to rival that of the famous Kewpie.
  • Seen as symbols of innocence and love, Kewpie dolls, named in honor of Cupid, are reminiscent of imp-like cherubs.
  • Ranging in size from a few inches to several feet tall, Kewpie dolls are easily distinguishable with their round faces, pink cheeks and protruding bellies.
  • Although the earliest Kewpie dolls were unclothed, today's Kewpie dolls can be found masquerading as popular storybook characters, dressed for Halloween or poised in their holiday best.
  • Likewise, each Kewpie has a small pair of blue wings on its back.
Created in 1909 by Rose O'Neill, Kewpie first appeared as magazine illustrations and in advertisements. Its greatest impact was acheived with the introduction of the porcelain-bisque dolls and figurines, which were first sold in 1913. Kewpie has been continuously produced ever since and remains enduringly popular.
